The Awesomeness Continues: Metro Door Opens While Train is Moving!
I'm guessing that this story would not normally be a big deal. In fact, this probably happens way more than we hear. But because of how disastrous the Metro rail system has been this year, especially this summer, everything is receiving extreme scrutiny.
The Washington Post has a quick story today on how an Orange line train rail car's door actually opened while the train was moving through a tunnel! Only one half of the door opened and it apparently closed when the train started slowing down. But holy crap! How many times have you seen a person leaning on the doors (or very close to it) during rush hour? People could easily have fallen out of the freaking thing.
So next time the train operators yells at you to stand clear of the doors, maybe listen to them. This story shows us that their advice is not just to keep you from crowding the doors and keeping them from closing, it's to make sure you don't die when they decide to randomly open.
