Yet Another Person Struck By the Red Line

Rumor from earlier today has been confirmed by WMATA. Yet another person has been hit by a Metro train this year. No word on how bad it is or what happened, but I'm sure we will find out soon. What is with the Metro this year...especially the Red Line. This is just sad.

A person has been struck by a Metro train at the Van Ness station on the Red Line.
A Red Line train headed toward Shady Grove hit the person around 12:30 p.m. Emergency crews are on the scene. The condition of the person is unknown at this time.

Trains are sharing a single track between Cleveland Park and Friendship Heights station. Red Line riders should expect major delays in the afternoon while emergency crews and police respond to the incident.

Full press release here.

Update 1:33pm:
Metro is now reporting that witnesses have confirmed the man who was struck intentionally put himself on the tracks. First responders rescued the man from underneath of the first car and have taken him to the hospital.

STOP PUTTING YOURSELVES ON THE TRACKS. IT IS NOT COOL.
