WMATA Being Transparent: A Big Thumbs Up

We try to balance the love hate relationship DC has with the Metro, but often times the hate side comes out a lot more clearly in our posts. Especially lately - but can you blame us? I do want to give kudos where kudos are due though. Overall, I think Metro has an awful communications department, specifically when it comes to new media. But tonight I happened to notice a link on their website entitled "FAQs related to train accident". As I started reading through the list of questions and answers, I was amazed at how thorough some of the answers were and how up front they seem to be with information. This is level of transparency of information is good on so many levels. One of the biggest cons being that it puts an end to speculation or rumors about what kinds of cars crashed or what caused them to fail, etc. It also shows that Metro is not trying to hide anything (NTSB will go public with all of their findings anyway, so Metro is doing the right thing now).

So a big kudos to the fellas over at WMATA. The Metro community appreciates the information and the transparency and we look forward to this approach moving forward.

Isn't the NTSB saying right now that basically it looks like it was Metro's fault? At least that was the last I heard (faulty switches, unchecked train brakes, etc...). So if that's true, then Metro is at least trying to give whatever info they can to make themselves look a little better.
