What Does Next Bus Do For You?

Hey bus riders (and maybe there have been more of you than usual these last couple weeks), are you ready for Next Bus to hit prime time? Well, your chance comes tomorrow (Wednesday, July 1), when the system relaunches to much fanfare.

We gave you the lowdown a few weeks back when the official announcement was made and DCist has a handy summary of your options for using the system - mobile web users can check out this link for real time arrival estimates: http://wmata.nextbus.com/ And you may have heard that the Circulator got in on the act recently as well.

So after the launch tomorrow be sure to tell us what you think: will this become something new to love about using the Metro system? We can only hope - Metro needs some good news this week.

Okay, I tracked each stop on the way down 16th on the bus I was riding. Fail! I approached my stop to find the Express bus approaching, not the one that Nextbus predicted. I boarded the Express bus.

Sooo, armed with my PocketPC, I followed each Express bus stop down to the White House. 2 minutes off. 4 minutes off. 3 minutes off. 5 minutes off. 7 minutes off. By the time I got to my stop, it was 10 minutes off.

I was amused though... On the way down 16th, we passed by two broken down Express buses that had backed up traffic all the way to Military Road. Maybe the money invested in this system could have gone to upkeep of the buses? Just sayin'...

Wow, that's not good to hear! It is day one though...maybe they need a few days to work out the kinks? Please do keep updating us...would be good to know how it is working, if at all.

Well, it's March 2010 and Nextbus is still useless. I wait in the apartment watching the bus... 13 mins, 9, 7, 6... then VANISHES. I run outside, no bus for 30 minutes.

This has happened the last 3 times I have tried to use Nextbus.

On my phone, it failes, too. I have just ended up walking or driving each time. Nextbus BAD... Nextbus LIE!!

By the way, how can NYC get mass transit so right with such a worse situation? And can we talk about snow removal? 40% of the plows were IN THE SHOP when the snow hit this year! in the SHOP?? are you fking kidding me? and DC ran out of salt? Does it go bad?? Fenty is a clown. Enough with the photo opps... how about some city planning? jag-off.
