"Then he said 'Will you marry me?'"
"Then he said 'Will you marry me?'" Ana Kay Yaghoubian, 28 of Silver Spring, MD, recounts those famous words uttered by her now fiance William Palmer, 31.
If you are a frequent reader, you know that covering engagements in the DC area is not exactly what we're known for. But there's something special about this engagement - something that highly qualifies it for special coverage by MovingMomentarily. You see, William wisely decided to skip the typically corny popping of the big question in an overpriced, fancy restaurant with tuxedo-clad waiters, surrounded by fresh red roses and some dude playing a violin in the background. He chose to go for something unique and spontaneous and most definitely memorable.
"...we were on the Metro Center escalator going down to the station when he began to mumble something about what a wonderful night we had. He bent down and I thought he was picking up something from the ground and was very confused. Then he said "Will you marry me?" and took out a little box with a ring in it. I was COMPLETELY shocked. I had no idea that he was going to ask me and I was absolutely speechless - which is VERY unusual for me. "
You heard it right. This lucky couple agreed to get married not just in a Metro station, which is crazy cool in its self, but while riding the freaking escalator! Can you think of anything more romantic?? I have to give William major, major kudos for the unique idea and for creating a story that they will never tire of telling. In fact, I think this story might just become Metro lore and get repeated in social circles around the city for years to come. Well, it will if we have anything to do with it.
The awesomeness does not stop there. The good people that are the riders of the DC Metro came through for William and Ana Kay too.
"We went down to the metro platform, I was beaming and looking at my ring and a woman standing near us asked if we had just gotten engaged. I said "Yes! It's kind of strange to tell you first since we don't even know you!" but she was very excited for us and said congratulations several times."
