Do You Hear What I Hear?

It's 1:00AM, give or take, early last Sunday. Metro Center is still hopping, Rosslyn a little quieter. You exit the train - you hear a voice (God?):

"Attention all Metro passengers - all Metro elevators are in service at this time."

It ends as quickly as you heard it. Did you imagine it? Were you dreaming? Dazed from your record-breaking game of BrickBreaker?

Is it possible? Not a single elevator outage in the entire system?

You arrive at the surface, momentarily perplexed, and then the thought vanishes on the walk home. But later you wonder, how long did it last? Did anyone else hear it? If no one else did, did it happen?

Monday brings about the next Metro journey and the familiar announcements are back:

"Platform elevators are out of service at Potomac Avenue. Shuttle service from Eastern Market."

It's over - probably has been for a long time. But will it happen again? When? Who will notice?

Did you hear it?
