Warning: Standing on Metro Tracks is Dangerous
Unless you have been ignoring MvngMomentarily on Twitter (or pretty much every DC local news source), you know that Metro has had some "issues" lately. And by issues, I mean the unfortunate killing of two passengers on the Orange line in just over two days. These are both very, very tragic events and our hearts go out to the families of these people who have been killed. We in no way mean to make light of their deaths, but we must tackle this new problem with our typical spin.

Warning: Standing on Metro Tracks is Dangerous
Metro does have a few accidents like this a year. Just recently an elderly lady was stuck underneath a train platform when a train came through because she fell on the tracks. She was not killed fortunately and everything ended up ok. It happens. But seriously people...do NOT stand on the tracks. I don't care if you do want to commit suicide, it's not cool. Suicide is terrible in its self. But doing it on the Metro tracks is NOT cool!
And since we don't have confirmation that the second death was suicide, we will assume otherwise. Therfore let me remind everyone that if you stand on the Metro tracks, for whatever reason, you will most likely be killed when the massive train comes screaming down the tracks. It is just simply not safe. Please stop.
Two in just over two days? That is a crazy rate and I really hope it stops immediately - for many reasons. Aside from how awful it is for suicide or accidental death to occur, these accidents cause massive disruptions in service to hundreds of thousands of people. They also decrease the general safety of the Metro system, especially the perception of safety. And we have our share of problems to tackle on Metro (well, WMATA has to tackle them I guess). I don't think anyone wants to start dealing with frequent incidents like this.
So let's do this. Let's Pay It Forward with this excellent advice, fellow passengers. The next person you see in a Metro station...kindly give them these words of wisdom: "Standing on Metro tracks is dangerous, try not to do it."
Together, we shall overcome.
