Metro World= Small World
So...it has come to our attention that weird, freakish things can sometimes happen on our beloved Metro. One of those occurences seems to be constantly running into people that you haven't seen in like six years (via twitter: emortiz and hoborocks), seeing someone from halfway across the country (via twitter: denwalt), or running into someone who you had no idea was living down the street from you... Regardless, we have all had these random, freaky experiences... Here is my story:
So... This is before I was a Washingtonian. I was just visiting my friend and fellow Moving Momentarily contributer, Karl, and in the area beginning my job search. I had arrived at his place in Ballston and decided I would go look around the city and waste some time.
I somehow ended up at Metro Center shopping at H&M, lost track of time, and thought I would make it back before Karl was home from work. Well, I transferred from Metro Center onto the Orange line just to find that there were crazy delays. It was one of those moments, and actually one of my first Metro moments, that I HATED the Metro. So I'm packed into this Metro car like a sardine moving at a snails pace. We finally get across the river to Virginia and stop at the Rosslyn stop. In walks in Karl, in my same car, and is standing right in front of me.
First off, Karl NEVER takes the Rosslyn stop. But, because of the crazy Metro congestion that day, he decided to just take a blue train at Farragut West and transfer to the Orange line at Rosslyn. Second, I had just flown in from Oklahoma and Karl thought I was sitting at his place hanging out waiting for him to get home. Third, the Metro was PACKED. It just happened that he got on MY train, on MY car, and stood right beside me....
So after I made sure it was him, I tapped him on the shoulder...and we were both seriously shocked. I had just flown in from half way across the country...and we just HAPPENED to end up on the same Metro car standing beside each other...
We still to this day tell this story, because we were seriously freaked out... So... Metro is a small world. You never know who you will run into. It can be an old friend or an old enemy, but it definitely makes you realize what a small world we live in.
